Welcome to the Other People’s Boats Yacht Club.
We are a community of sailors, mostly racers, who rely on the kindness of other skippers to get our Ya Yas. We’re like a golden retriever who likes to stick our head out the car window, we just need someone to drive. The beauty of OPB-YC is that there are no dues, no minimum food tabs, no dress code, no reciprocal rights or any of that. Essentially, it’s BYOB.
Want to show your OPB-YC spirit? Or just want some cheap sailing gloves that will get you through the season? Then check out our sailing gear shopping cart. We suggest getting two pairs of gloves. ‘Cuz they’re like socks. You’re always losing one.
The second vision of OPB-YC is to provide some free services for sailors, in particular, people who want to sail and race more and don’t have their own boat. And support for skippers, because we always hear how hard it is to get and keep crew.
We’ve thought of a lot of seriously genius, beer-inspired ideas for sailor’s ‘social media’, but we need to prioritize (ahem, the more gear you buy, the sooner we can develop). Here is the post-beercan brainstorm list. Leave us a comment to tell us what you would likely use the most!
1. Interactive Local Event Calendar that will integrate with iCal
2. Post your sailing resume and make it easy for skippers to contact you, either to invite you to sail or just coordinate the current crew for an upcoming event.
3. Share your photos and sailing stories with your regular crew and/or the rest of the membership.
4. You really have a hysterical idea for an OPB YC t-shirt? Tell us what it is.
5. Man, you really wish you could get foulies that fit and looked cooler.
6. Travel! It’d be cool to sail with some real sailors in some cool places. Croatia, Buenos Aires, Whiskey tasting on the Scottish coast are some ideas..
